Film Noir 02:43
I'm a stutter I'm stolen thunder I'm screaming bloody Murder I'm the colour Of the hold I'm under That whispers to me Temper temper I'm the letter The note The number There I am The dogs of war Are thoughtless thugs But when the stone cold only Turn to dust What's to lose? Where were you When the hard-got hand Got through? Call me over I'm waiting for you The shudder Of the line of light Between the curtains You can't defy You should've listened To the bible bashers Should've got your act together But you didn't And now you're just A stutter Where were you When the hard-got hand Got through? Call me over I'm waiting for you I'm a stutter I'm stolen thunder Whisper to me Temper temper

Wherever you are Are you alone Thinking evil thoughts? Are you a loner? You could be with your Enemies' enemies

Stay Gone 04:55
You wouldn't lie To me, would you? When you go Oh God I hope you stay gone Hanging from the ceiling The way you sway Don't you wanna Hear about my day? They say they swear They said they swore They're seeing god In the room next door Have you thought about me Like I've thought about you? If what you long for Longed for you too

About the EP:

"This EP consists of songs from, like, totally ages ago, that I felt compelled to spruce up.

They were originally recorded in a very rough fashion, and in some respects held a certain lo-fi charm; in other respects they sounded like porridge (not the classic 70s sitcom...I wish!).

I initially considered re-recording the songs from scratch, but sometimes the magic of lo-fi, rough as guts, often-spur-of-the-moment bedroom recordings can't really be reproduced; I instead opted for refurbishment.

What I initially thought would just be a weekend-long jaunt recording a bit of bass guitar and lounging around with my laptop on my chest pulled up to my double chin, casually remixing tracks with one hand, holding a martini in the other, ended up taking...oof, much longer.

I've re-recorded a bit, changed the arrangements somewhat, and remixed the songs considerably, all with the aim of retaining the energy that was initially captured while giving the songs more room to breathe and a more vibrant production.

The songs:

The guitar tracks for St. Elmo's Fire were originally recorded very late at night; I was so wary of disturbing my flatmates (not because I'm considerate, just because one of them was terrifying) that I played super quietly and turned the recording level on my crappy mixing desk right up. As a result, it contained all the background hiss in the world. I intended to replace them and record the guitars 'properly', but I just liked it, and when I did attempt a cleaner recording it just wasn't the same song.

Stay Gone has some electric guitar that I just love the sound of, and had pretty much forgotten about. I no longer have the amp that I used, but damn, that was such a great amp. I've never been one for owning lots of gear, or tinkering with settings for a week to get the perfect, perfect golden tone. God, who can be bothered? So I loved this amp; you just switched it on and it sounded amazing.

Film Noir continues to be one of my favourite compositions of my own, and I've played some version of it in almost every one of my live sets since writing it. The vocal harmonies are a new addition, and something that I would always imagine when I played the song; it's so great to have them finally realised."
